创作背景
“坎耶·维斯特抢话筒事件”后，坎耶·维斯特受到了媒体和公众的排挤，他感觉全世界都在与自己为敌，于是他去夏威夷进行了“自我流放”。该曲的许多灵感来都来自于关于坎耶·维斯特的各种社会舆论。坎耶·维斯特在歌中加入了许多“一语双关”的语句，来产生一种“含糊不清”的表达效果。他希望该曲既能表现自己与喜爱女孩的关係，也能表达自己对媒体、社会的想法。
在录製过程中，Pusha T和其它录音人员都原谅了坎耶·维斯特抢泰勒·斯威夫特话筒这一事，全身心投入工作中。在Pusha T开始录製前，坎耶·维斯特已经完成了该曲的大部分录製工作。Pusha T害怕自己对该曲的理解不够深刻，于是多录了几次。2010年3月左右，该曲的录製工作在夏威夷完成。

歌曲鉴赏
《Runaway》是《My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy》整张专辑製作最壮观宏大的曲目，这首近10分钟的史诗般的歌曲若看歌曲长度，实在让人很难把它和嘻哈这个词联繫在一起，而这正是坎耶敢为人之不为所在。开始零星的钢琴泛音瞬时让人的瞬间安静下来，在坎耶完成主体的说唱部分后，大提琴的突然加入让人猝不及防，而这时的坎耶透过合成器发出扭曲变调的夸张声音，不禁让人想起了当年《808's & Heartbreak》里的Auto-tune，而同那张专辑一样，这里变型失真的声音同样是服务于主人公低落的情绪。
《Runaway》开创了嘻哈音乐的另一种行业标準，或者至少可以说，是另一种表达方式。在音乐中，冷静而保持匀速的每一颗钢琴音符坠落，成为了嘻哈的节奏基础，这似乎不是新鲜的手法，但这次在《Runaway》却表达很到位，让人印象深刻。
